DUKE'S
FAILURES
Duke Energy has continually failed to live up to the enormous costs we pay.
HURRICANES
Widespread outages during hurricane Milton were heightened due Duke’s lack of storm hardening measures and preparedness. Even simple structures, such as the Duke Energy website outages map, were overloaded during this time and failed to report accurately to residents.
At the same time Winter Park, FL had only 2% power loss due to their investment to bury powerlines.
RENEWABLE ENERGY GOALS
The city of St. Petersburg has adopted a goal to use 100% renewable electricity by 2035. Duke Energy has repeatedly failed to provide data and accurate reporting. The city is unlikely to meet these goals with the current arrangement with Duke Energy.
CEO PAY & BENEFITS
Duke Energy reported in their 2024 financial statements that C-Suite employees take home over $40 million annually. Duke Energy had the second-highest average CEO-to-employee pay ratio between 2017 and 2019 among the utilities examined in this report, at 139:1.
